England vs Switzerland | International Friendly Match | 8:00pm Tuesday 11th September | King Power Stadium

England vs Switzerland  -

England vs Switzerland meets for the second time at this UEFA Nations League as they compete for third place in Russia.

Nevertheless, Southgate would be forgiven for sending out his strongest XI in a bid to end the break on a high at Leicester's King Power Stadium.

Instead he is ready to make serious alterations in a bid to offer much-needed game time to those who need it and preserve others who have been denied a post-Russia break.

Gareth Southgate will ring the changes for England's friendly against Switzerland, insisting his job is to promote the long-term health of the national side rather than protect his own record.

TThe Three Lions' 2-1 defeat to Spain at Wembley, in what was both their inaugural Nations League fixture and a celebration of their charge to the World Cup semi-finals, means Southgate's squad are in danger of becoming the first England team to lose four senior internationals in succession.

Those looking for mitigation do not have to search far. The defeats to Croatia and Belgium were in the last four of a tournament, territory that many of the current side's predecessors failed to tread, while Saturday's setback came in a brand new competition.

England gained some revenge as they crushed Croatia in their next two games, winning World Cup 2010 qualifying games in September 2008 (4-1) and September 2009 (5-1).

Possible Starting Lineup:
After an incredible couple of season’s Harry Kane has cemented his place in the team as a first choice striker and he will lead the forward line for England in World Cup 2018.

Delle Alli is expected to start in no.10 role with Raheem Sterling and Rashford playing on the wings.

Henderson and Eric Dier are expected to start in midfield while Kyle Walker and Danny Ross should start in full-back roles. John Stone (if fit) will start in central defense alongside either Garry Cahill or Phil Jones. Jack Butland is likely to start ahead of experience Joe Hart in goal.

Key Player: Harry Kane
Hard to look past Harry Kane who has been in absolute astonishing form over the last couple of years. He has been scoring goals for fun and now regarded as one of the best center forwards in the world.

However, he is part of a very fluid Spurs team and usually gets the number of chances every game. It will be interesting to see if he can carry his club form with England national side.

Team News

Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling has withdrawn from the squad due to a back problem.

Manchester United's Luke Shaw, Burnley defender James Tarkowski, and Southampton's uncapped goalkeeper Alex McCarthy have been included.

Southgate had also recalled Adam Lallana after the Liverpool midfielder was left out of the World Cup squad following an injury-plagued campaign, but he has since withdrawn with a groin injury.

Jamie Vardy and Gary Cahill have effectively retired from international football - although are available in case of an injury crisis.

In Vardy's absence Southgate named Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford and Danny Welbeck as the only strikers in the squad.

Midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek keeps his place after impressing in Russia in the summer, despite playing just 22 minutes for Chelsea this season.

Predicted Line-ups

England XI: Pickford; Walker, Stones, Maguire; Trippier, Henderson, Alli, Lingard, Rose; Vardy, Rashford

Spain XI: Courtois, Alderweireld, Kompany, Boyata, Meunier, Fellaini, Witsel, Chadli, De Bruyne, Batshuayi, T.Hazard
