Burnley vs Liverpool: Premier League How to Watch

Liverpool want to start 2018 in the same manner as they ended the previous year - with a league victory to solidify their spot in the top four and extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to 16 games.

Burnley, as they proved in this exact fixture last season, will be frustrating opponents. Sean Dyche's men, sat in seventh - just below Arsenal - have had an excellent season thus far and could yet challenge for a place in Europe next season.

Liverpool head to Turf Moor on New Year's Day aiming to chase down Chelsea and Manchester United in the race for Champions League football.

The Reds came from behind to beat Leicester on Saturday to finish 2017 inside the top four and Jurgen Klopp's men will now be focused on pinning down the teams directly above them.

They head to Burnley, where they lost 2-0 last term, knowing victory by three goals or more will see them jump above Manchester United, who play later on Monday.

Team News

Burnley defender James Tarkowski returns from a ban for his side's home game against Liverpool.

Tarkowski has served a three-game suspension and boss Sean Dyche must decide whether to recall him to the starting line-up or retain Kevin Long and Ben Mee in central defence.

Left-back Stephen Ward (knee) and striker Chris Wood (leg) remain doubtful, while Robbie Brady (knee) and Tom Heaton (shoulder) are long-term absentees.

Provisional squad: Pope, Lindegaard, Long, Mee, Tarkowski, Taylor, Lowton, Bardsley, Defour, Ulvestad, Hendrick, Cork, Westwood, Marney, Arfield, Gudmundsson, Vokes, Barnes, Walters, Wells.

Liverpool
Liverpool's leading scorer Mohamed Salah could be a doubt for the trip to Burnley after limping off in Saturday's win over Leicester.

Simon Mignolet will return at Turf Moor as manager Jurgen Klopp continues to rotate his goalkeepers.

Defender Alberto Moreno (ankle) could be fit for Friday's Merseyside derby FA Cup tie but as the transfer window does not open until the day of the game new signing Virgil van Dijk cannot be registered in time to play.

Provisional squad: Mignolet, Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Lovren, Robertson, Can, Wijnaldum, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Coutinho, Firmino, Mane, Karius, Gomez, Klavan, Milner, Lallana, Solanke, Salah, Ings.
