Table-toppers do battle in the EFL Cup fourth round as Manchester City welcome Championship leaders Wolves.

Whilst Pep Guardiola’s City have swept all comers on their way to the top of the Premier League Wolves have made a more steady ascent to the Championship summit, with three straight wins pushing them clear of Cardiff at the top of the table.

In Leo Bonatini and Diogo Jota Wanderers have two of the quintet topping the Championship scoring standings with seven goals and just like City they are their league’s top scorers.

Whether their defence is enough to hold out even a second string City XI remains to be seen but Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo will doubtless consider this a valuable test of his side’s readiness to compete in the top tier.

Start time

Manchester City welcome Wolves to the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday, October 24. Kick-off is scheduled for 8pm.

TV and live online coverage

There will be no live televised coverage of the match in the UK but you can keep up to date with the latest action with NewGersy blog.

Team news

Manchester City
Pep Guardiola rotated his side somewhat for the third round tie against West Brom, though the likes of Bernardo Silva and Yaya Toure make for formidable alternative options.

However Sergio Aguero will hope to feature as he chases the goal that will take him clear of Eric Brook as City’s all-time red goalscorer with 178 goals, though Guardiola’s vow to “play 11 new players” would suggest the Argentine will start on the bench.

Despite Guardiola’s insistence on completely changing his XI he may have to persist with Fabian Delph, who has proven to be an impressive auxiliary left-back in Benjamin Mendy’s absence.

Nuno also rotated his Wolves side in the EFL Cup, making eight changes in the previous round, but is likely to name a strong XI to take on the Premier League leaders.

Predicted line-ups

Manchester City XI: Bravo, Danilo, Adarabioyo, Mangala, Delph; Toure, Gundogan, Foden; Sterling, Jesus, Zinchenko

Wolves XI: Norris; Batth, Coady, Roderick; Doherty, Ruben Neves, Saiss, Douglas; Ivan Cavaleiro, Diogo Jota, Leo Bonatini
