It remains the only domestic trophy missing from Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal trophy cabinet but will he let the League Cup fall by the wayside again?

Four semi-finals and two runners-up medals are the sum of Wenger’s achievements in a competition traditionally given over to blooding the youngsters.

But with Wenger looking to keep a sizeable squad happy and competitive, there may not be space for many of the Hale End youngsters when Doncaster Rovers visit the Emirates on Wednesday.

Instead the likes of Jack Wilshere, David Ospina and Olivier Giroud can all expect to be given the opportunity to prove their worth ahead of the visit of West Brom in the Premier League five days later.

Start time

Arsenal host Doncaster Rovers at Emirates Stadium with kick-off scheduled for 7.45pm on Wednesday, September 20.

TV and live online coverage

The match will be not be televised live on TV in the UK. Alternatively, you can follow all the build-up and action from 6.45pm with NEW GERSY blog.

Team news

As in the Europa League, Wenger is set to rotate his pack with Mohamed Elneny, Olivier Giroud and David Ospina among the likely starters.

Mesut Ozil missed the 0-0 draw at Chelsea with a knee injury but it is highly unlikely that Wenger will risk his fitness even if the German recovers in time.

Danny Welbeck is also expected to miss the Cup tie after sustaining a groin injury at Stamford Bridge. Though an initial scan was not available on Sunday, Wenger conceded that the injury was “not an easy one”.

Jack Wilshere is in contention for a start since returning from his Bournemouth loan whilst highly rated youngster Reiss Nelson could also make his first appearance in a line-up.

Predicted line-ups

Arsenal XI: Ospina; Chambers, Mertesacker, Holding; Nelson, Elneny, Wilshere, Maitland-Niles; Walcott, Iwobi; Giroud
