new gersy/ Chelsea vs Roma: Champions League

Chelsea will be looking to bounce back from a demoralising league defeat at Crystal Palace when they welcome Roma to Stamford Bridge for Wednesday’s Champions League clash.

Chelsea vs Roma: Champions League prediction, team news, line-ups and where to watch on TV

After their heroics in the Wanda Metropolitana last month Chelsea have been brought back down to earth in the Premier League.

A 2-1 win at Atletico Madrid has Antonio Conte’s men set fair for a top two finish and qualification for the knockout stages but three points at home to Roma on Wednesday would hand them a commanding grip on the group.

But Chelsea have struggled to hit the heights they reached in Spain in the Premier League, where they have lost against both leaders Manchester City and bottom side Crystal Palace.

Roma are also unbeaten in their first two games of the group stage but were forced to settle for a 0-0 home draw against Atletico in the opening round of fixtures.  And while Chelsea may have been struggling over recent weeks the Gialorossi will travel to London battered and bruised after a 1-0 home defeat to Serie A leaders Napoli.

Start time

Chelsea host Roma at Stamford Bridge with kick-off scheduled for 7.45pm on Wednesday, October 18.

TV and live online coverage

The match will be televised live on BT Sport 3, with coverage from 7pm. BT Sport subscribers can watch the match on the enhanced video player on BTSport.com or via the BT Sport app.

Team news

Alvaro Morata is expected to start following a hamstring injury when Chelsea play Roma in Champions League Group C on Wednesday night.

But right wing-back Victor Moses is to join midfielder N'Golo Kante in being absent with a hamstring injury.

Midfielder Danny Drinkwater (calf) remains sidelined, so Chelsea may play Davide Zappacosta in place of Moses and could push David Luiz or his fellow defender Andreas Christensen into midfield.

Antonio Rudiger will hope to feature against his former side, who might have be grateful for his services after losing Kostas Manolas to injury in Saturday’s loss at Napoli.

Patrik Schick, Gregoire Defrel, Emerson Palmieri Kevin Strootman and Stephan El Shaarawy are further doubts for the Italians, though the latter pair could be available for Roma manager Eusebio Di Francesco.

Predicted line-ups

Chelsea starting XI: Courtois; Cahill, Luiz, Azpilicueta; Zappacosta, Fabregas, Bakayoko, Alonso; Pedro, Hazard, Morata

Roma starting XI: Alisson; Bruno Peres, Juan Jesus, Fazio, Kolarov; De Rossi, Strootman, Nainggolan; Florenzi, Perotti, Dzeko
