Morata reignites Real Madrid centre-forward debate

Karim Benzema and Alvaro Morata have been battling for the Real Madrid No. 9 spot all season long and the debate over which striker should start remains alive and well thanks to the goal the latter scored on Sunday night after replacing the Frenchman.
With one headed goal - his first in 50 days - and another that was chalked off for offside, Morata suggested he can rediscover the impressive form he showed at the start of the season.

At that point he was a serious candidate to inherit the starting place that Benzema had held since 2009, bar a brief period of competition with Gonzalo Higuain, and he may once again be in contention to start over the out-of-form 29-year-old.
Benzema is currently going through one of his worst runs of form in the white of Real Madrid and he was even whistled by sections of the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu crowd on Sunday night.
Comparing the two over the course of the entire 2016/17 campaign, their numbers are fairly even; the Frenchman has 13 goals in 20 matches as a starter and seven as a substitute, while the Spaniard has 10 goals in 11 starting appearances and 16 run-outs from the bench.
As such, Zinedine Zidane has a difficult decision to make, but he respects both players as he adores Benzema - a player he defends whenever he can - while the coach was decisive in convincing Morata to reject big money offers to stay in the Spanish capital.
With a busy and demanding February fixture list - containing visits to Celta Vigo, Valencia and Villarreal, as well as the Champions League clash with Napoli - fans of Los Blancos will soon find out if Zidane keeps his faith in Benzema for the big occasions or if there will be a true competition to start at the tip of attack
☺❤Tell us what you think about that.
